Down payment assistance (DPA) programs can help you purchase a home now by providing some or all of your down payment. Some DPA programs offer monies in a grant that you do not have to pay back. Others offer the funding in some form of a loan with low or no interest. DPAs may have terms to repay the loan when you sell the home. Or the provider might forgive the loan once you have lived in the home for a certain number of years.
DPAs terms and qualifications vary because each program is unique. DPAs are generally developed and funded by non-profits and county programs.

The Housing Finance Authority of Pinellas County (HFA) is a Special District established by the Board of County Commissioners that helps families and individuals in Pinellas County purchase their first home. The HFA's mission is to assure that financing for affordable housing remains available to the residents of Pinellas County. The HFA has also provided funding for the development of affordable multi-family housing for residents who desire rental opportunities. The HFA Board is composed of five members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.
